Scottish ministers have thrown out plans to build a windfarm near
a Perthshire beauty spot made famous by Sir Walter Scott.
Catamount Energy's application to erect 24 turbines at
Abercairney, near Crieff, has been rejected on the grounds it would
have an adverse effect on the local environment.
The windfarm would have been just south of Sma' Glen, a beauty
spot which featured in Sir Walter's poem, Glen Almain.
The scheme was submitted to the executive as it was too large to
be determined by Perth and Kinross Council.
Objections from the council and Scottish Natural Heritage on
visual impact grounds meant a four-day inquiry had to be held in
