An Experienced climber was feared dead last night after being
washed down a coastal waterfall at the start of a walking holiday on
Rum.
Thomas MacAuley, 60, a member of his local Arrochar Mountain
Rescue Team in Argyll and Bute, was crossing the water with a friend
when he was swept away. The accident was witnessed by his companion,
45-year-old David Macquire from Dumbarton, a member of Strathclyde
Police Mountain Rescue Team, who also slipped into the waterfall, but
managed to grab hold of a clump of heather and pull himself free.
After a desperate but fruitless search of the area, around Alt nam
