New digital mapping data giving detailed landscape information on
remote parts of the country is now available to mountain rescue
teams.
More than 80 local teams in the UK now have access to digital
mapping data at 1:25,000 scale, thanks to an agreement with Ordnance
Survey.
The information will provide extra help to teams who work with GPS
- global positioning system - technology and hand-held devices, and
help them manage their emergency responses.
The digital mapping information is the same scale of information
found on Ordnance Survey Explorer maps and details the most remote
slopes and heights to paths, tracks, field boundaries and tree
copses.
