Article: Day-Care Center for Disadvantaged Closing in Alexandria

The Alexandria Department of Social Services announced last week that it will close its long-running Alexandria Day Care Center for low-income families at the Lyles-Crouch School at the end of June.

City officials said low-income families will be better served if the center's funding is used instead to subsidize disadvantaged children in private day-care facilities. All of the children at the center will continue to receive day care, in private or in-home facilities, and they still will receive subsidies.
