Locals and visitors did a double-take in Fort William yesterday
over the appearance of a four-strong fleet of 50-year-old MacBrayne's
buses.
The Maudsley, Bedford and Bedford Duples arrived in town to
celebrate the centenary of the first scheduled service operated by
David MacBrayne Ltd between Fort William and North Ballachulish.
The event was marked by the MacBrayne Circle, a group of
enthusiasts - some of them former bus drivers who made a 300-mile
round trip for the occasion. The once familiar sight in the Highland
town made for a nostalgic event for those aged 45 and over, bringing
back memories of school bus travel, the means of transport to and
from work and of excursions to Glasgow ...
