Article: Boost for North Sea as buzzard up and running

The giant Buzzard field in the UK North Sea has now come on stream, after bad weather prevented it coming into production before the end of last year.

It is one of the largest oil discoveries to be developed in British waters in more than a decade, with gross recoverable reserves of around 550million barrels of oil equivalent.

Peak production of 200,000 barrels a day is expected to be achieved during the first half of 2007.

Canadian firm Nexen is the operator of the field, which was brought on stream at a cost of around pounds1.5billion.
