The row over the sudden closure of Stornoway Airport last week is
to be raised with the Scottish Executive.
Western Isles Council are writing to the ministers highlighting
the unacceptable shut down that led to flights being cancelled. The
council is also bringing the matter to the attention of the board of
the airport operators Highlands and Islands Airports Ltd (Hial).
The council has also demanded that Hial keep them better informed
regarding any problems that could lead to the airport closing. The
operation of the airport has been affected from time to time by a
shortage of air traffic controllers, and difficulty can arise when
they have to take their statutory breaks from their screens.
