Jobs and grading depots are likely to be the casualties of a
"radical restructuring" being considered by the British Wool
Marketing Board.
The board is attempting to cut costs to ensure more cash goes
back to producers.
The impending operations review was revealed by board managing
director Ian Hartley yesterday in Edinburgh.
He was unwilling to discuss the specifics of the overhaul that was
agreed before Dumfries-shire farmer and elected board director Rog
Wood quit last month, claiming the 57-year-old statutory marketing
organisation had outlived its usefulness.
Mr Wood suggested when he resigned that Scotland be given
responsibility for marketing its own wool clip from a portable ...
