A council which came under fire last year over its long waiting
list for free personal care for the elderly - and its unenviable
delayed hospital discharges record - has achieved a commendable
turn around.
In June 2006 there were more than 200 people waiting for Argyll
and Bute Council funding for care packages, including those waiting
in hospital for discharge into residential and nursing home care;
those assessed as needing home care, as well as other types of adult
social service assistance.
Yesterday, exactly a year later, the council's newly-formed
executive was told that the number of delayed discharges - where a
person deemed suitable for a community care package is kept ...
