Prime Minister Gordon Brown was forced last night to defend
making Defence Secretary Des Browne act as Scottish secretary as
well.
Mr Browne was given the title in Mr Brown's reshuffle, taking over
from former Scottish Secretary and Transport Secretary Douglas
Alexander.
The move came under fire from the Tories during Mr Brown's first
prime minister's questions in the Commons.
Wiltshire North MP James Gray, from Dunblane, accused Mr Brown of
failing to answer his challenge over how much time Mr Browne was
going to be able to devote to his Scottish duties after supervising
the over-stretched armed forces engaged in wars in Iraq and
Afghanistan at a time when Britain has "more troops ...
