Article: Union calls for referendum on future of wool marketing

Scotland's farming union has called for a referendum to decide the future of wool marketing as concerns grow at the poor prices being paid by the statutory body responsible for selling it.

NFU livestock committee convener Kelvin Pate said the time had come to possibly consider alternative strategies for the marketing of wool from Scotland.

The vote being proposed by the union would show if Scottish wool producers believed the British Wool Marketing Board was delivering for them or if an independent report should be commissioned to devise a better regime that ensures higher returns to farmers.
