A new row erupted last night over Aberdeen-based oil companies
which continue to flout Foreign Office advice and employ British
workers in the trouble-hit Niger Delta region of Africa.
Aberdeen North Labour MP Frank Doran released a copy of a letter
from Foreign Office Minister Lord Triesman expressing concern for the
safety of Britons in the region, stating: "Our travel advice for
Nigeria currently advises against all travel to the Delta and
contains strongly-worded warnings about the risks of working there."
He revealed Foreign Office and British High Commission officials
from the Nigerian capital of Abuja and officers of the Metropolitan
Police had briefed 160 oil and gas companies in ...
