Article: Desk set from Victorian office

All too often accessories to writing equipment are lost, and a worrying trend in antiques centres is the theft of ink bottles and pen trays from scribes' pieces. Not only does this reduce the value of the box or case, the chances are that they won't fit anything else anyway.

But there is no such problem with a Victorian clerk's desk set which has, beneath a folding top, three inkwells - one china and two glass. Also included is a glass pen tray in the front well, while behind are the names of the inks, for red, black and copying. An unusual set, all original, on PJC Collectables' stand for pounds40 at the Cedars antiques and collectors' fair in Barnstaple tomorrow.
