If it was not for the blatant and offensive historical
inaccuracies in Mr K Douglas's letter (August 15) I would not have
bothered to respond to his pathological drivel. At least my "anti-
American pontificating" has the merit of being based on irrefutable
facts.
Readers are entitled to be informed of the real facts about the
participation of European volunteers on the Eastern Front.
In the 1930s an upsurge of Fascism all over Europe (including
Britain) followed the economic and political success of the Nazis and
fascists in Germany and Italy and became more visible after the
surrender of France in June 1940. At this time German propaganda
