The UK's doormats are littered with tons of junk mail each day -
and the problem is set to worsen. Royal Mail is trying to have
restrictions on the number of junk letters it delivers a week lifted
so that it will be able to deliver unlimited letters.
Unsurprisingly, research shows that nearly three quarters of
households don't want it. But it's not only the annoyance of
receiving junk mail; there is also an environmental cost.
With only a third of direct mail being recycled, thousands of
tonnes are simply thrown in the bin. According to the Local
Government Association, 78,000 tonnes of junk mail were sent to
landfill last year.
