A battle may have been won but the war is far from over in a
contest for the title of best regional food.
The mighty Cornish pasty has been beaten to the crown by the king
of the north, the Yorkshire pudding.
Judges at the Good Housekeeping magazine awards gave first place
to the Yorkshire pudding ahead of the pasty but the Cornish have
vowed to fight back.
Angie Coombes, spokesman for the Cornish Pasty Association, said:
"I'm shocked and surprised. The Cornish pasty is a whole meal in
itself encased in pastry whereas the Yorkshire pudding is just part
of a roast dinner.
"Yorkshire puddings are not a truly regional food - they're
produced around the world and aren't connected to the region ...
