Theo Epstein is rejoining the Boston Red Sox, 21/2 months after he
turned down a three-year, $4.5 million offer to remain as the general
manager.
Epstein and Red Sox management issued a joint statement yesterday
saying he will return to the organization full time, but they did not
say in what capacity Epstein would rejoin the team. The statement
said details of his return would be announced next week.
Epstein declined to elaborate on the statement, which also came
from principal owner John Henry, chairman Tom Werner and president
Larry Lucchino. The team would not comment on how Epstein will fit
into the organization's hierarchy, but Henry denied that Lucchino's
role was diminished to lure ...
