According to American scientist Judith Wurtman, we need to snack on the very foods regarded as the dieter's enemy - carbohydrates like pasta, bread and potatoes - to feel good and get slimmer.

She explains: "We need carbs to produce good levels of serotonin, a mood-enhancing chemical that occurs naturally in our body.
