Euro-zone threat to British degrees

Moves to create an educational "euro-zone" risk undermining the
autonomy of the UK's world-leading universities and could devalue
British masters degrees, MPs warn today.
Ministers must stop the European Commission seizing control of
plans for students and academics to work together more closely across
Europe, say the Education Select Committee.
And the MPs warn that an inflexible attitude from European
bureaucrats could render Britain's traditional one-year masters
degrees virtually worthless.
The warnings come in a report on the so-called Bologna Process -
an initiative involving 45 countries to develop a European higher
education area by 2010.
