Voluptuous women fill Ama Menec's studio. The shelves are crammed
with miniature torsos while on the floor stands the turquoise Nile
Egyptian goddess, her flesh as cool as marble, with a glaze which
glitters in the sun. Ama's ceramic statues are as unapologetic about
their curves as Marilyn Monroe.
Among the shelves are bags of plaster and pots of glaze and books
on ancient civilisations, which Ama uses for inspiration. The
further back in history you go, the fatter the female deities.
She is currently working on her Neolithic Abundance Goddess, a
Buddha-like female figure with strong features and rolls of flesh.
She is based on the small female figures excavated in about 8,000 BC
