One rather old-fashioned but delightful way to spend a hot
summer's day is to go out on a picnic - whether it is a trip to the
coast, a drive up onto the moors or the coolness of a comfortable
shaded spot by the river.
One of my favourite picnic foods is smoked salmon, which is both
full of flavour and light in texture. It is ideal for picnics and can
be easily transported in a coolbag.
Served simply with thinly sliced and lightly buttered brown bread
and a wedge of lemon it is absolutely delicious, especially when
followed by locally grown strawberries and clotted cream. Can there
be anything more traditionally British?
