THE RESTORATION of St Pancras and the renaissance of the gloomy
old WC1 environs is nothing short of miraculous to those of us who
live in the 'hood.
When we moved into a square a short walk from the station a
decade ago, we avoided telling people we lived anywhere near King's
Cross. We'd instruct them to walk through the leafy streets from the
Angel or approach it from Clerkenwell anything rather than treating
them to the dim-lit King's Cross Road after 6pm.
I was once offered a lift home from Kensington by a rather
expensive surgeon friend. I was merrily explaining to him what a
