Article: Local Response to Perot Move Reflects Feelings That Inspired Bid

Voters throughout the Washington area reacted to Ross Perot's withdrawal from the presidential race with a mix of disappointment and indifference yesterday, curiously underscoring a disenchantment with politics he had sought to exploit.

Among some Perot supporters there was visible anger, almost disbelief that the political newcomer who had given them such hope could abandon them so abruptly. Among the uncommitted, however, there was an "I-told-you-so" disparaging of Perot's staying power, and grudging admiration for the thicker campaign hides of President Bush and Arkansas Gov. Bill Clinton.
