Article: GOP Seeks Probe of Gonzalez Over Iraq Data

House Republican leaders yesterday called for an ethics investigation of Rep. Henry B. Gonzalez (D-Tex.) for disclosing classified information in his repeated monologues on the House floor about the Bush administration's handling of Iraq prior to the Persian Gulf War.

The resolution filed near the end of the day's session stops short of making a formal ethics complaint against Gonzalez, chairman of the House Committee on Banking, Finance and Urban Affairs, but does accuse him of violating two House rules against improper conduct and releasing information received at a closed committee meeting. No House rule specifically bars a member from releasing classified information.
