SAN LEANDRO -- San Leandro Hospital operates at a loss of
$700,000 a month, says George Bischalaney.
The hospital's net book value is $25 million, adds Bischalaney,
chief executive officer of Eden Medical Center, which operates its
San Leandro counterpart.
In 2004, the Eden Township Healthcare District paid
$35 million for the 122-bed complex.
"We could not now get a buyer with the current operation," says
Bischalaney.
Meanwhile, hundreds of local doctors fear the hospital will close
-- or be converted for other medical uses -- unless changes are made
to create a positive cash flow.
