PEARISBURG -- Giles County has a new sheriff and a new circuit court clerk.

While the change in the clerk's office was inevitable with retiring clerk Scarlet Ratcliffe's departure, the shuffle in the sheriff's office wasn't so predictable.

Morgan Millirons, a sergeant with the Virginia Tech Police Department who finished second in the 2003 Giles County Sheriff's election, came in first this go-round, defeating incumbent Bryan Altizer.

"I am tickled pink," Millirons said. "I think the voters are trying to show how much they want me to be sheriff. They want to try a different person with new ideas."
