On a warm April night in College Park, Eddie Vedder and his
band, Pearl Jam, ripped into "Porch," a high-velocity song
denouncing politics as usual. "All the bills go by and initiatives
aren't taken up by the middle. There ain't gonna be a middle
anymore!" Vedder sang before diving headfirst into the sold-out
crowd at Ritchie Coliseum. Seconds after being swallowed into the
frenzy, Vedder reappeared, floating horizontally on waves of
upraised hands.
Punk rage meets political gridlock in the mosh pit. Is this any
way to save the world?
After the show, drained, Vedder headed back to his hotel.
Walking down the hallway, he passed room after room with masking
tape across the door frames. ...
