AN abbey's new 3m visitor centre has earned two major regional
awards in a week.
The centre, built in the ruined shell of a 17th Century mansion in
the shadow of Whitby Abbey, North Yorkshire, is celebrating the
double achievement seven months after its opening.
Earlier this month, Chormley's House claimed the top architectural
prize in the Royal Institute of British Architects' White Rose award.
Designed by architects Stanton Williams, the building was praised
as a warm and exciting piece of architecture, displaying sensitivity
to the historical context of the abbey.
Three days later it scooped a second award - the tourism category
