A VILLAGE'S bargain-priced healthy eating scheme is proving a big
success, with 204 bags of fresh produce sold in the latest week.
Residents have been hurrying to buy supplies of fruit, vegetables
and salad at 2-abag in the community centre at Cockfield, near
Barnard Castle, County Durham.
The results are so successful a similar community cooperative
service is to be launched in the nearby village ofEvenwood on April
29.
Danielle Barnes, community development worker for both villages,
said: "I am absolutely delighted at the way families have welcomed
the project right from the start."
The produce is bought at wholesale prices from local suppliers and
then packed by volunteers who take turns ...
