Article: Here at The New New Yorker; Editor Tina Brown on Her Revolutionary First Issue

Anyone wondering what Tina Brown means to inflict upon The New Yorker will not have to wait long for answers. The first issue bearing her stamp, dated Oct. 5, appears Monday. The cover illustration, the new editor says, will convey "impishness." The table of contents henceforth "will tell you what the stories are about" - and she laughs that anyone would find this revolutionary. There will be bylines at the tops of many stories, rather than signatures at the end. Look for a new back-page humor feature. Splashes of color. Subheads. Fewer lines to the page. New use of old New Yorker "decorative friezes" atop columns. But no type on the cover. Not yet.
