Deaf people with AIDS now have a guarantee of privacy that
hearing people stricken with the disease have always had.
Nearly 30 local agencies that provide services for people with
AIDS recently installed TTYs in their offices that will let the deaf
communicate with their organizations directly.
The $400 machines were a gift to the agencies purchased with a
Ryan White grant by Deafpride, an advocacy group for the deaf.
Ann Wilson, a Deafpride spokeswoman, said the deaf and hard of
hearing are considered a population at risk of HIV, the virus that
causes AIDS, and AIDS because they simply are not exposed to the
information and news about the spread of the disease that hearing
people get ...
