The Toronto Blue Jays will step up to the postseason plate for
the third time in four seasons, having won the American League's
East Division today with a 3-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers in
front of 50,412 at SkyDome. The question remains, though, whether
they will fall short of the World Series as they have in their last
three ventures into the AL Championship Series.
Today, though, Juan Guzman (16-5) ended an inauspicious run of
starts by pitching masterfully for eight innings (nine strikeouts,
one hit and no runs) and Joe Carter provided the margin of victory
with a first-inning two-run homer that completed the first stage of
the Blue Jays' mission on the next-to-last day of the ...
