Mount Pleasant business owner Kit Yun Fong has what sounds like
a simple business plan for his new Chinese carryout restaurant,
Chopstick. He wants to appeal to all the neighborhood's residents.
"This side are rich people: lawyer, doctor, engineer,
accountant. They like very good Chinese restaurant," said Fong,
pointing west to the streets lined with trees and spacious row
houses.
"This side are Spanish," he said, as he pointed east to
apartment buildings on Mount Pleasant Street, 16th Street and
beyond. "They are alien. They don't speak English."
"How can they have money to buy Chinese food?" he asked. But
they do, he said, and they like the food.
