Article: Shortlist announced of visitor centre architects

EIGHT architects have been shortlisted in an international competition to design a 6m visitor centre for a North-East museum.

Beamish Museum, in County Durham, launched a worldwide search to find experts to come up with ideas for its new facility.

Ninety-three architectural practices registered their interest.

Beamish director Miriam Harte said she was delighted by the quality and quantity of the bidders.

She said: "This competition gives architects a unique opportunity to create a gem of a building in exceptional surroundings. The visitor centre will set the standard for future projects at Beamish.
