The White House
Two blocks from 1600 Pennsylvania and three weeks from the
election, the topic was not who will be in the White House, but who
was and what they did to the premises.
The Chronicler, an addict of White House history, was
delighted to join 405 others from Alexandria , Budapest and points
between for a symposium, "The White House: The First 200 Years." The
three-day event offered always learned and frequently entertaining
views of the President's House by its greatest scholars. It was held
at the Willard Hotel - itself a sometime haven for presidents. The
