Article: D.C. Teachers Union Head Calls Meeting to Sign Pact, Fails to Appear

The D.C. school superintendent, school board president and other board members left their building mystified last night after the president of the teachers union failed to show up at a meeting to sign a long-awaited contract.

What was odd, they said, is that the Washington Teachers Union president, Jimmie Jackson, had called the meeting.

"This is the strangest thing I've ever seen," said R. David Hall, D.C. Board of Education president, standing in the board conference room surrounded by television cameras and reporters who had been called to the meeting.
