IPOH: The Ipoh Utara toll plaza death tally went up again when
three people were killed as their lorry ploughed into the back of a
parked trailer at 3am yesterday.
The dead are lorry driver A. Panchanathan, 40, from Brickfields,
Kuala Lumpur, and passenger L. Saravanan, 17, from Kulim, Kedah.
The third victim is the co-driver who has yet to be identified.
Their lorry, laden with fertiliser, was travelling from
Butterworth to Kuala Lumpur and believed to have developed brake
problems upon approaching the toll plaza.
Panchanathan was believed to have driven into the Smart TAG lane
to avoid crashing into vehicles queueing up to pay at the toll
booths.
