ANY child of the `80s will be able to identify with the phrase `I want my MTV!' - immortalised by Dire Straits in the song Money For Nothing.

What would be equally unthinkable is for people to forget the man responsible for the vocals and the group itself - Mark Knopfler.

Born in Glasgow, Scotland, on Aug 12, 1949, Mark was inspired by his uncle Kingsley's harmonica and boogie-woogie piano playing. As a teen, he formed and joined anonymous schoolboy bands and listened to guitarists such as Scotty Moore, Jimi Hendrix, Django Reinhardt and James Burton.
