THE bird that people in Ipoh are most fond of is the chicken.
Their affection for it knows no bounds, and is expressed perfectly in
the creation and consumption of that national treasure known as
`chicken rice'. Second only to nasi lemak in the popularity stakes,
this dish is the pride of Ipoh and has been known to drive people
insane with happiness.
Some will pay an astronomical amount of money to devour it in top-
class restaurants; some will drive for miles just to get to their
favourite chicken rice coffee shop; and some could it eat for
breakfast, lunch and dinner for the rest of their lives. I had a
