I don't spend much time under the hood, and I suspect that mechanics can sense it -- no matter how much I try to make it seem like I'm a producer for "Dateline NBC."

When I play dumb, they can apparently tell I don't have to try very hard.

So, in addition to worrying about how much change might disappear from my cupholder, or whether they wash their hands before touching my steering wheel, I'm always a little leery about being taken ...
