DURING the period in review (27.3.2003 - 2.4.2003), the market
drifted lower on worries that the war in Iraq may drag on longer than
initially expected.
Closer to home, there was the added fear of the financial impact
of the deadly Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) on the Asian
economies.
Price weakness in the shares of airlines and tourism-related
companies were clearly evident. MAS fell 5.6% to RM3.40, Genting lost
9.4% to RM12.60 and Resorts dropped 9.7% to RM8.40.
In comparison, the three closely-watched stock barometers declined
by less than 1%.
The blue chip KLSE-CI fell 0.6% to close the period in review at
