Federation Council members have long been irritated by the ease with which theycan be recalled by the regional politicians who sent them to theupper house. But relief may be on the way in the form of amendmentsto the law on the status of Federation Council deputies, which wasapproved by the State Duma in the first reading on 29 November.According to "Izvestiya" on 30 November, the amendments would bar theremoval of Federation Council deputies during their first year ofservice.
