Catherine Filene Shouse, who founded Wolf Trap 20 years ago and
has exercised strict supervision ever since, reportedly is on the
brink of a rupture with the organization because of an executive
committee decision last month to pull the plug on a planned
20th-anniversary television special.
The 94-year-old Shouse resents the executive committee's
balking at the expense of the show, according to some of her fellow
board members. Sources say Shouse blames the cancellation on board
Chairman Najeeb Halaby and may want to unseat him at the annual
meeting next Tuesday. That attempt appears certain to fail,
according to other board members.
