"I love American Playhouse," said Joanna Gleason, who appeared in
the series' "Life Under Water." "I think it's an incredible venue.
It's like our historical preservation society."
Last week in New York, Gleason presented the National Board of
Review of Motion Pictures' D.W. Griffith Award to American Playhouse
for its production of "Andre's Mother."
This week, "Into the Woods," the musical for which Gleason won
her own Tony, opens the 10th season for American Playhouse. The 1988
Tony-winning musical, by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine (who also
did "Sunday in the Park With George"), was taped during a Broadway
performance and includes an interview with composer Sondheim. Both
