Peter Kirk, the Columbia real estate company president who owns
two Maryland minor league franchises, said yesterday he is not
intending to damage Washington's bid for an expansion team by his
attempt to get a Class AAA franchise for either Prince George's or
Anne Arundel counties. He met and received the support of Maryland
Gov. William Donald Schaefer just days before the National League
Expansion Committee visits on Monday.
"The last thing we would want to do is interfere with Washington
getting a major league team," Kirk said. "I would love to see a
National League team in the area. If I did {think we were hurting
Washington}, we would back away from it very quickly."
