HISTORY was made at the new St Pancras International today as the
first Eurostar train left the Pounds 800 million station precisely
on time.
As the 11.06 to Brussels pulled out of the station, Eurostar
chiefs hailed the successful launch of one of the coun-trys most
celebrated engineering projects in years. The service was a sell-
out, DICK MURRAY AND VALENTINE LOW the restoration of the Victorian
masterpiece has been universally acclaimed and even green
campaigners were on board to praise the project.
Minutes later the first arrivals pulled in at the gleaming new
station, one from Paris and one from Brussels. Cest magnifique,
declared the French passengers.
