Be prepared for lane closures and jackhammers along the Southeast
Expressway for the next few weeks, as the Highway Department begins
a $12.8 million repaving between the Braintree split and Savin Hill
Avenue in Dorchester.
Work on the 6.5-mile stretch, on both the northbound and
southbound sides of Interstate 93, will be done at night and during
noncommuting hours to lessen hassles for commuters. At least two
lanes of traffic will be open at all times. The project will include
ramp reconstructions and replacement of all guardrails.
"We're not widening the road," emphasized Erik Abell, a Highway
Department spokesman, in a telephone interview last week. "It's a
