Guidance designed to increase Chesterfield's bat population is
being issued to householders in the area.

Council chiefs are concerned about the decline of bats. Six
species are endangered nationally and a further six are classed as
vulnerable.
The authority has decided to earmark bats as a "key species" and
it is has issued an information pack for residents to help protect
the nocturnal mammals.
A Chesterfield Council spokesman said: "Bats are a vital and
important part of the biodiversity of Britain and it is an offence
for any person to kill, injure or capture any bat.
"It is also an offence to disturb a bat roost or obstruct access
