Article: Visitor centre worries at historic home are dismissed

Guardians of the historic landscape around Castle Howard have expressed concerns about a new visitor centre planned for the arboretum.

The arboretum is to the west of Castle Howard and lies within the historic park and garden, which is protected by a Grade I registration.

The charitable trust linked to the famous Kew Gardens, Kew at Castle Howard, has 157 acres of trees. Many are rare and endangered and never previously grown in North Yorkshire.

It the first year the arboretum, received only 273 visitors, but last year there were 7,000 and now, with the site open every day except Mondays from March to October, the trust needs to replace its inadequate prefabricated visitor ...
