Article: Cancer expert urges research into therapies

MORE research is needed on complementary therapies to evaluate their success in improving the quality of life of cancer patients, a leading specialist says today.

Evidence from researchers at Hull University suggests many people benefit from relaxation therapy, hypnotherapy and guided imagery in which patients are taught to visualise their bodies' defences vanquishing tumours.

Trials suggest that the quality of life of patients has been improved when patients are given the therapies.

But Prof Leslie Walker, of Hull University, says more trials need to be undertaken to evaluate the cost effectiveness and safety of other complementary therapies.
